Face Recognition from Still Images and Videos

چکیده
In most situations, identifying humans using faces is an effortless task for humans. Is this true for computers? This very question defines the field of automatic face recognition [7], [31], [62], one of the most active research areas in computer vision, pattern recognition, and image understanding. Over the past decade, the problem of face recognition has attracted substantial attention from various disciplines and has witnessed a skyrocketing growth of the literature. Below, we mainly emphasize some key perspectives of the face recognition problem.

Face identification in videos from mobile cameras
It is still challenging to recognize faces reliably in videos from mobile camera, although mature automatic face recognition technology for still images has been available for quite some time. Suppose we want to be alerted when suspects appear in the recording of a police BodyCam, even a good face matcher on still images would give many false alarms due to the uncontrolled conditions. This pape...
متن کاملPeople in videos from people in pictures
We propose an appearance based model for face recognition in news videos using an enormously large databank of still images. This is a step towards building an elaborate face-query system using multimodal audio-visual data. We use the fact that faces of the same person appear similar than of different people. We preprocess the videos, apply feature extraction, feature matching and a unique para...
متن کاملFace Recognition in Thermal Images based on Sparse Classifier
Despite recent advances in face recognition systems, they suffer from serious problems because of the extensive types of changes in human face (changes like light, glasses, head tilt, different emotional modes). Each one of these factors can significantly reduce the face recognition accuracy. Several methods have been proposed by researchers to overcome these problems. Nonetheless, in recent ye...
متن کاملThe contribution of the body and motion to whole person recognition
While the importance of faces in person recognition has been the subject of many studies, there are relatively few studies examining recognition of the whole person in motion even though this most closely resembles daily experience. Most studies examining the whole body in motion use point light displays, which have many advantages but are impoverished and unnatural compared to real life. To de...
متن کاملFace Recognition from Still Images and Video
Face recognition with its wide range of commercial and law enforcement applications has been one of the most active areas of research in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition. Personal identification systems based on faces have the advantage that facial images can be obtained from a distance without requiring cooperation of the subject, as compared to other biometrics such as fin...
